The upcoming Photo Legends Type 1 Showcase sale features a set of 32 original U.S. Coast Guard official photographs of D-Day, June 6, 1944, including one of the finest examples of "Taxis to Hell – and Back – Into the Jaws of Death" by Chief Petty Officer Robert F. Sargent, one of the most historically significant images of World War II. Seven of the 32 photos are by Sargent. These photos offer an indelible narrative of the events that unfolded from the pre-dawn maneuvers and landings to the retrieval and treatment of wounded U.S. troops and round-up of the defeated during the day's carnage, the pivotal day of the conflict on the Western Front.
