Firsts Hong Kong Book Fair Opens Today
Firsts Hong Kong opens today and runs until December 8 at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, marking the incorporation of the former China in Print fair into the Firsts stable.
Among those exhibiting are Bernard Quaritch who will be offering early photograph albums and photobooks of Hong Kong and China including a large archive from the Turner missionary family, printed and manuscript maps of China, and a selection of Chinese manuscripts detailing life, death, and book purchases of Christian missionaries in China in the 19th century.
Other highlights include:
* a series of photographs showing Hong Kong in the colonial era by British businessman Denis Henry Hazell (1897-1970) offered by Shapero Rare Books
* Cornelius De Jode’s rare circular map of China, China Regnum, from 1593, with illustrations of East Asian life such as fish-catching cormorants, a fishing boat with a chimney-topped cabin, and the wind carts depicted on many early European maps of the region, offered by Daniel Crouch Rare Books
* a huge collection of early editions and translations of Mao Zedong’s Quotations in the 60th anniversary year of the publication of the 'Little Red Book', offered by Peter Harrington
