Isaac Newton Theological Manuscript and Handwritten Bruce Springsteen Lyrics to Auction
RR Auction's Fine Autographs and Artifacts Sale ending December 11 features nearly 900 items with a special focus on science and technology.
Leading the sale is a one-page handwritten theological manuscript by Isaac Newton which focuses on the Nicene Creed and his controversial views on the Trinity, challenging orthodox Christian doctrine. Other highlights include:
- a four-page mathematical manuscript by Leonhard Euler On the Resolution of the Differential Equation axⁿdx = dy + y²dx which showcases Euler's pioneering work in calculus, differential equations, and mathematical notation
- Nikola Tesla's autograph letter on extraterrestrial life, addressed to Universal Pictures co-founder Carl Laemmle, written in 1937
- a handwritten letter by Albert Einstein addressing humanity's flaws and his thoughts on global leadership
- a World War I-dated letter from Thomas Edison focusing on his efforts to support the U.S. Navy's military innovations during the war
Also going under the hammer are rare handwritten working lyrics by Bruce Springsteen for the E Street Shuffle, two lined notebook pages, circa 1973, the headline track from his second studio album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle which was released in November, 1973. When the E Street Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and its members took the stage, this was the song they played.
A variety of signed Christmas cards also feature in the sale including ones from Princess Diana and King Charles III, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Radiohead. A 1984 card from the band Queen sent during their 'The Works' tour and signed by original band members Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor (“Give it the works this Christmas from Queen” is expected to sell for $6,000.
