Printed Books and Manuscripts at Chiswick Auctions, July 20
Chiswick Auctions is hosting sale of Printed Books and Manuscripts, taking place on Wednesday 20th July at 1pm.
Featuring in the sale will be the second part of the Surrealist Collection of the late John Lyle. (Lots 100-230).

Small Folio (occasional spotting, light browning to pages). Contemporary calf (boards detached and rubbed, extremities rubbed). Provenance: A number of the pamphlets are signed by Mr Holwell, who was a survivor of the Black Hole of Calcutta and Governor of Bengal in 1760.

Lot 201. La Revolution Surrealiste. Paris: Librairie Gallimard, [1924-1929]. Folio. A complete run of installments (occasional light spotting). Original vellum (minor wear). SIGNED by Andre Breton, Pablo Picasso, Marcel DuChamp, Jacques Prevert, Tristan Tzara, Benjamin Peret, Rene Magritte, Paul Eluard, Andre Masson, Philippe Soupault, Roland Penrose, George Ribemont-Dessaignes, Jacques Boiffard, Jacques Baron, Michael Leiris and Raymond Queneau.

Lot 174. ARCHIVE- LYLE, John (1932-2002). A large and substantial archive including material relating to: Ted Joans, Tony Blundell, Les Coleman, George Melly, Alan Burns, Philip West, Ian Breakwell, Patrick Hughes, Pierre Prevert, Marcel Jean, Jean-Louis Bedouin, David Gascoyne, Jose Pierre, Edouard Jaguer, Maurice Henry. Also includes John Lyle's work featuring many correspondence relating to Transformaction, which is laced throughout the archive.

Lot 106. PREVERT, Jacques. Paroles. [Paris?]: Le Caligraphie, 1945. 4to. (Pages lightly browned). Original grey illustrated wrappers, titled in red (chipping to the spine and general minor wear). Provenance: Jacques Brunius (signature), John Lyle (Bookplate). With 4 ALS: 2 from Jacques Prevert and 1 from Pierre Prevert, the latter written in coloured pencil: "Mon cher petit Jacques Bernard Brunius Borel J'ai bien recu le livre en anglais du cinema Francais et international...". One of the ALS is written on the back a collage depicting a priest and a donkey: "Mon cher Jacques je suis content d'avoir de tes nouvelles anglais. J t'envoie d'adresse de de Maria... Pour L'"Obelisk...".The collage is stamped on the same side as the ALS in blue ink: "Foto Peter Cornelius". Estimate: £1,000 - £1,500
