Organizers of next month's rare book fair at the Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture are working to accommodate booksellers displaced by the cancelation of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America (ABAA) book fair in Pasadena.

The event was canceled earlier this week when The Red Cross and FEMA announced it would use the Pasadena Convention Center for the next 30 days as part of its recovery efforts following the devastating wildfires.

Rare Books San Francisco is being held February 1-2 and will host more than 120 small businesses specializing in antiquarian books, rare maps, fine prints, ephemera, artist’s books, and zines from Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States. More than a dozen bookselling firms have been added to the Rare Books San Francisco event since the cancelation of the Pasadena fair.

“As a Los Angeles-based company with many friends and colleagues displaced by the wildfires, we understand the impact of this disaster and the long road of recovery that lies ahead,” said Jen Johnson, Rare Books LA Communications Director. “We are doing our part by supporting the rare book community.”

One intended Rare Books San Francisco exhibitor, Catherine Kanner of The Melville Press, was forced to cancel because she lost both her home and most of her inventory in the Pacific Palisades fire. Rare Books LA established a GoFundMe to help her rebuild the press.

In addition, Rare Books LA will honor all passes to the canceled fair, regardless of whether buyers received their money back. The ABAA announced it has refunded all tickets purchased to the book fair in Pasadena.
