Signed Limited Edition of Albert Einstein: Philosopher-Scientist to Auction

Nate D. Saunders

Albert Einstein: Philosopher-Scientist

A rare signed limited edition of Albert Einstein: Philosopher-Scientist will be available for auction through Nate D. Sanders Auctions on March 27.

This collectible edition, published by The Library of Living Philosophers Inc. in 1949, is signed 'Albert Einstein. 49' on the limitation page, marking it as number 547 in a run of only 760 copies. The volume features 25 essays by prominent scientists including contributions from Louis de Broglie, Max Born, Gaston Bachelard, and Niels Bohr, the latter reflecting on the storied Einstein-Bohr debates.

Spanning 781 pages, among its highlights is the nearly 100-page chapter titled Einstein's Autobiography, written in both English and German. In this candid piece, Einstein delves into his legacy with wit, remarking that he feels as though he’s penning his own funeral oration. Physicist and historian Abraham Pais described this as the closest Einstein came to an autobiography.

The book’s craftsmanship includes faux leather boards with gilt embellishments, top edge gilt, and a matching slipcase. Bidding will start at $11,000.
