Tapestries of Tolkien's Art Celebrate The World of Middle-earth
Aubusson Weaves Tolkien is a new exhibition presented by the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie which opens in March in Paris.
Running March 21 through May 18, these tapestries will be exhibited at the Collège des Bernardins, a former Cistercian college and now a cultural center.
The exhibition will feature 15 tapestries based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original graphic work including Bilbo comes to the Huts of the Raft-Elves and Bilbo woke up with the Early Sun in his Eyes which were created over seven years by the workshops of the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie in Aubusson located in central France. The work will be on display in the nave, the former sacristy and the 18th century staircase of the collège. Memorabilia from private collections will complete the exhibition.
The Collège des Bernardins aims to provide an insight into the Christian dimension of Tolkien’s work and his relationship with faith is also the focus of the artistic and academic program accompanying the exhibition which includes:
- a Tolkien Reading Day with a continuous reading of The Silmarillion, March 22-23
- conferences on themes around nature, man, and mystery in Tolkien’s work, March 24, April 3, April 24, 2025
- a Festival des Heures concert with music inspired by Tolkien, April 4-5
- a screening of The Lord of the Rings, unabridged, April 26
